It has been a great stretch of high pressure of late for guiding in the Tetons as well as skiing big lines. The park has gotten busy with backcountry skiers and this makes for a recipe of going a bit further and deeper into the range to explore quieter spots.

This last week I had the pleasure of taking some Backcountry Magazine friends out to Bivouac Peak to ski a classic line off the South side. The crew dug deep for a day adventure that covered some miles crossing Jackson lake and then ascending the peak. The couloir was in variable condition but the sun was out, the route was interesting and the company was excellent. Just one of those great long days outside and in the mountains.

The few days before I had done a couple more of the longer car-to-car trips (good expedition training): One to ski the Sickle Couloir, Mt Moran (direct finish) with a complete ski descent with Jay Hause and Chance Burleson and then Chance and I headed back across the lake to ski another line on a nearby peak on the anniversary of losing our friend Steve Romeo.

I’ve enjoyed getting out with some new partners and checking out some new areas. Earlier this season, I got out with Jay to ski the South East face of the South Teton. It was probably one of the best descents I’ve had in the tetons as we skied almost perfect conditions from the very top to the very bottom. Those days are rare in ski mountaineering.

These above routes are just a few of the highlights of the last few weeks in Grand Teton National Park. We also got in a few different descents off of Prospectors Peak, Teewinot, Mt Wister, Albright Peak, Veiled Peak, Shadow Peak, 25 Short couloirs, Static Peak area, Buck Mtn and more.

Last year I spent a significant amount of time filming for various projects with a lot of outtake footage. When all the episodes launched there was a lot that was not used so my friend and phenomenal editor, Michelle Smith, put together this fun little “sizzle” video. Hope it’s as fun to watch as it was to ski.
